VDP – The absolute top of German wine
The VDP brings together approximately 200 wine estates and has a highly selective membership, accessible by invitation only. The association also follows its own quality classification system, based on the classification of vineyards – an approach comparable to that of Burgundy.
Under the guidance of Master of Wine Cees van Casteren, you will taste a selection of approximately twenty exceptional wines from leading VDP producers. The evening begins with prestigious German sparkling wines from Reinecker, Heid and Rebholz. This is followed by Silvaner from Franconia from Horst Sauer and Am Stein – Ludwig Knoll, and Chardonnay from Pfalz, Rheinhessen and Baden from, among others, Friedrich Becker, Kühling-Gillot and Bernhard Huber.
You will then taste Rieslings from Wittmann, Dönnhoff, P.J. Kühn and Philipp Kuhn, followed by Spätburgunder from Meyer-Näkel, Fürst, Christmann and Salwey. The evening concludes with Riesling Auslese from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, including wines from Zilliken and Maximin Grünhaus.
The dinner will be prepared by chef Philipp Stein of Steins Traube* in Mainz, located in the heart of Germany’s renowned wine regions.

Thursday 8 October will be dedicated to the absolute top of the German wine world: the VDP – Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter.
